Quilter's Family

They Want Quilts

We have some out-of-town guests this weekend and I'm in my glory.  I love when the house is full of friends, family and laughter.

My grandson had a birthday and we celebrated with dinner, some gifts and, of course, a cake.

Our weather is supposed to be very cold tonight and when it came time for bed and settling in I offered extra covers to our guests.  It did my heart good to hear my guests asking for my quilts instead of blankets.  I always prefer quilts to blankets and it's nice to know others do too!!!  Quilts not only provide warmth but also a special kind of comfort.

Quilt Stolen

FrogsFrogsI always try to see the good in people.  My mother taught me this.  She was the kindest, sweetest person and she truly believed that everyone had good in them.

Today, I am having trouble with this theory.

First Blizzard

Yesterday I came directly home from school as the snow was falling fast and thick.  Although I drive a Jeep with four-wheel drive, some drivers act crazy on bad roads and I didn't want any part of it.  The roads were snow-covered and slippery.  The snow was falling at a rate of one inch per hour so the snowplows were unable to keep up.

This was our first blizzard of the year and I was very excited.  Not excited for the snow so much as having a good excuse to grab a hot cup of coffee and hide away in my studio!!!  I made great progress on the signature quilt I am working on.  I worked for awhile on the rug I'm making on my weaving loom and I found a bag of scraps I had stowed away so I started pressing and sorting them.

Take 5 Pieces Cut

The PiecesThe PiecesAfter spending the past few days grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning and enjoying having friends over last night, I spent most of the day today working in my studio.  Boy did that feel good!  With the house clean and the refrigerator full of leftovers, there was nothing stopping meWink  After grabbing a fresh cup of coffee,  I straightened up my Accuquilt cutting area, cut the pieces for the Take 5 quilts that my sister and I will be piecing,  worked on adding frames to the squares of a signature quilt I'm making, cut, joined and pressed sashing strips fo

Long Distance Quilting

I'm going to try something a little different.......Long Distance Quilting!  My sister and her husband moved a few hundred miles away and I really miss getting together with my sister for quilting days.  Hopefully during the spring and summer we will be able to get together for a week or long weekend of quilting but the winter weather is unreliable for travel.

Brakes

Well this was an interesting weekend. Friday afternoon I had to run a couple of errands. A friend rode with me and we, of course, stopped at Starbucks on the way home. After getting our scrumptious beverages through the drive-up window we headed for home and when we came to a stop sign I heard a little pop and my brake pedal went squish! We weren't too far from home and made it there safely but were not able to go out fabric shopping this weekend as I'd hoped.

Happy New Year 2012

Happy New Year!!!  2012 started out great and I hope this first day is an indication of how the rest of the year will goLaughing.

Last night, my husband and I were able to spend the evening at our son and daughter-in-law's house.  This morning we slept in then went out for a late breakfast with some dear friends.  I got to speak with my daughter and grandson over the phone and after a quick trip to the grocery store with a friend, we had a Starbucks and a nice visit.   I was able to spend the rest of the day in my studio!

What a Weekend

I had a wonderful weekend.  I hope you did too, no matter how you spent it.

Wednesday afternoon and evening our houseguests arrived.  My sister and her husband came from up north and our daughter and grandson came from the south!!!

Thursday was a great Thanksgiving spent with my brother, sisters and our families which now includes children and grandchildren!

Friday was a well spent shopping day.  I actually did some Christmas shopping.....and it's still November!!!

My sister and brother-in-law left on Saturday. My daughter, grandson and I played some board games (or as my grandson says "cardboard games" and ended with a Super Scrabble marathon.

Our daughter and grandson traveled home today and our son joined us for Sunday dinner.

Happy Thanksgiving

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.  I hope you get to spend some time with your friends and/or family, enjoy beautiful weather, eat some of your favorite foods and, of course, spend at least a little time quilting.

I am very lucky as my daughter, grandson, sister and brother-in-law are staying with us.  I love for my house to be full of people and conversation.  After our wonderful dinner I'm hoping for a family movie (since that's probably all I'll be good for after eating turkey!).  When the effects of the turkey wear  off I hope my sister and I will be able to spend a little time working on a quilt project or some other quilt related activities.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Happy Quilting,
Laurel

Veteran's Day

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our veterans.  I appreciate your service to our country - past and present.  I sincerely hope that someone, somewhere did something nice for you today.  I am thankful, everyday, for your efforts to make our country the best that it can be.  Thank you.
